IEC continues to assist shredding and recycling facilities across North America. Over the years, we have faced numerous environmental issues associated with these operations and have worked to identify and correct them promptly to keep our clients up and running. Working to protect the environment, we offer:
Automobile Shredder Residue, or ASR, waste, groundwater, stormwater, Phase I/II, and soil sampling/monitoring
Contamination solutions
Landfill waste coordination and relationship management
Relevant employee training and in-feed control classes
Fluff Sampling & Networking
IEC has developed a sampling protocol that is used across the country, with minor modifications, as the industry standard for analyzing shredder residue (fluff). We have worked with over 200 shredders and over 1,000 scrap yards to ensure their business continues to function at a high level while we minimize their environmental impact. To do this, we offer:
Quarterly, semi-annual, and annual, ASR fluff sampling and monitoring
ASR fluff Alternate Daily Cover
Stormwater Permit Management & Sampling
IEC specializes in industrial stormwater permitting and compliance management for our clients across the United States. Permits and regulations often vary from state to state, each state having its own specific requirements. These permits also require continual attention to monitor changes across the data and make any necessary updates. We help our clients manage the complexities of stormwater permitting and compliance through the use of:
Spill prevention control and countermeasure (SPCC) and annual tank inspection and reporting
Quarterly, semi-annual, and annual Inspections
Comprehensive annual evaluation
Applicable state reports
Groundwater Monitoring
Groundwater quality is directly linked to human health and contaminated groundwater can adversely affect both the community and a property’s values. To preserve a site’s low-impact functionality, it is imperative to monitor and map its groundwater activity. Like stormwater SWPPPs, groundwater pollution prevention plans are required in some states to track this activity to identify any changes in potential contamination early and aid the cleanup process. Our groundwater services include:
Groundwater monitoring reports
Well installation oversight & monitoring
Hydro-geologic modeling
Long-term groundwater monitoring
Release investigation, plume delineation, and cleanup coordination
Groundwater Pollution Prevention Plans
Phase I / II / III Environmental Site Assessments
Phase I/II/III Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) are performed to evaluate the environmental-impact potential of a property, usually as part of a commercial real estate transaction. These assessments are performed in stages, Phases I, II, and III, to identify any potential sources of environmental impacts, evaluate levels of contamination, and cleanup plans, as needed. Each step in the process gets more detailed, starting with a base level investigation of past and current uses of the property in question, ending with in-depth subsurface level testing. We are trained in:
Property review, consulting
Facility expansion planning
Contamination solutions
Remediation planning
Brownfield negotiation
Site closure
Health & Safety
Health and Safety plans are critical in the metal recycling industry. Each facility has a significant number of humongous, extremely powerful pieces of equipment. Each of them poses potential threats to human health and safety. Identifying potential problems; determining employees potentially affected; developing safe practices and protocols; and implementing a comprehensive ongoing training program that is continually being enforced in the field a provides a proven approach to ensuring that all employees are operating in a safe environment, protecting each of them and the company. We are trained in:
